Introduction to the Free Float Quad Rail

In our free-float quad rail project, we’re going to build a quad rail system using four of the most popular free-floating systems on the market today. There are several reasons why I chose to use this particular configuration. First, it’s easy to build. There are two major elements to this project: the base rails and the crossbar. The base rails are the long, horizontal rails that run under each platform.

We’ll be building ours from 1×6″ hardwood. The crossbars are the horizontal bars that connect the platforms. You’ll use 2x4s. The other reason why I chose this configuration is that it works well for both small and large children. The small ones can get right into it, while the bigger ones can use the entire width of the platforms without being too crowded. Also, this project is versatile enough to be adapted to different needs.
